Lifting The Fat Lady Without a Hoist

MarkT

3-Ton $50 jack kit from K-Mart. It's even black and silver.

5 notches will clear the ground.  Put the stands by the crash bars.

Use a block of wood over the lifting saddle.  Put the saddle slightly left of center, behind and right of the oil filter.  Lift until the tire clears a couple of inches.

Pull the bike upright.  Hold it while jacking above stand height.

Position the stand on the right side and pull the bike on it.

Position the stand under the left side and carefully lower the bike on it.

Position the jack with the wood block under the rear of the engine and lift the rear of the bike.

Reverse the procedure to lower.  Don't forget to put the kickstand down.
